Hmmm i think a *buntu is better, because Steam offical supports it. And there are tons of information how to fix a problem and a lot of install ready .deb files from companys like Skype, Opera etc.
I use Ubuntu Mate (because i dont like gnome 3) and i have no problems at all. Kubuntu was instable, Suse often was work to get games up and running, Spotify the same.

MX linux ? for gaming os? .. did you not get the point of MX-linux?? it is the Coolest distro in linux, for what it dose , – but because of the tweeking make it not so good for GAMING =(if you installed it – you dont get it ) (you use the live installer – to install it, to a USB/SD flash drive.) its a persistent full OS – built on Live CD , it can even re-master it self .. . . it also can Ram-drive boot- .. but the best-part is that its a Usb-live that can run your day to day OS on a pentium 2 MMX for 1/2 the day – then you can run it on your laptop on the way home, then run it on your New pc.. and have your own distro- … *(it also dose a CIA/NSA trick – were you Raid0 (custom raid0) the live iso to 2 or 3+ usb-flash drive , …. but with all that must go-on in the background to maintain MX linux – you wont get the best FPS or load times .. …

That is me also but it is getting tiring to have to mess with a package for a few days to tweak it sometimes to get it to work the way I want.
Seriously thinking of trying something different.

reasoning is a bit wonky.. e.g. the whole fedora argument, is essential the exact same as you could say for manjaro, it's not for beginner, not all out of the gate experiences. You need to tinker here and there… but once its setup, it's very fast, very nice to use…

So, does that mean I can't get Nvidia proprietary drivers on Arch/Manjaro Linux or it's just harder to setup as Pop_OS already has it ready? I'm just confused by that; I'd love to try Arch/Manjaro if it really is faster, more customizable AND I can still use Nvidia proprietary because I'm using Pop_OS right now, and it just works, but he's right.. I want to customize lol

You know, I use Pop OS as my daily driver. From web development, playing dota 2, to learning godot game engine. I have chosen it over Manjaro because, at some point Manjaro breaks on me and I cant have something like that for work. But regarding the ISO of Pop OS for PCs w/ nvidia drivers, that didnt worked for me. I have an nvidia card here but it just didnt worked for me. So Im using the other ISO, didnt installed nvidia drivers, and still had a happy life. Just sharing though. And I agree with things you dont want on Pop OS. You cant even have custom launchers. I wish there would be a day where an ubuntu based distro will sport BSPWM.

Thanks! I've been looking for a place to start for fixing a good Linux gaming PC. In the video, you said that Manjaro is the best one for most people. Is there any specific flavour of Manjaro that you're referring to?

I would agree. I think my first recommendation would be Pop! OS for a new user who wants to do gaming. I've actually had a Pop! OS upgrade brick one of my boxes. But, it is a rather odd build. So, who knows.

Oh sure, me as a gamer the most important thing I need is customization. And of course the newest possible version of packages. Not the most stable packages, the newest are the ones I need. And screw the fact that Steam and all its compatible games are developed for Debian-based distros. Screw the fact that gamers just want to install distro and play (forever). Screw the stability. No no no, none of that is important, the church of Arch is the way to go for gamers

I totally agree with the assessment of MX-Linux. This is my daily driver, and would not recommend it for gaming. It is great for the first time Linux user, and the users (like me) who would rather GUI than Command line every little function.

arch + wine
All the linux distros can provide an excellent gaming experience when the games are also made for it.
The problem is that too much games are "windows_only" and sometimes use specific dll and dependencies.
It would be great if game devs and app devs think about linux users. For exemple discord is used gaming events and stream but has a shitty support for linux.
Oh ! A triple A game ? windows only.
Oh ! Danmakufu script ? windows only
Oh ! A cool voice modifier with gui ? windows only
Oh ! A…windows !
Linux could do all that, but windows users are almost always the only targets. It's difficult to port a windows thing on linux. But it's easy to port a linux thing on windows.
Hey dear devs:
Make your apps on linux first so you can port it more easily on windows after that. And guess what, you would have a lot more people using your stuff (yes) since they wont be discouraged by the fact that they would have to use wine with no promise that it would work.
Some people actually buy games on steam without knowing if it will work on their OS.
Some people actually buy some controllers without knowing if the windows specific driver inside of it will work on their OS.
The perfect day will be when we won't have to doubt, and when we will be able to run an universal executable in whatever distro we use, and without searching for dlls or specific dependencies, without hacking, or at least when there will always be an sh and an exe in each fuckin applications.
But maybe microsoft try its best to keep people away from linux by makin its structure always more specific to discourage them to try something else, forcing its monopoly. Money money money…
I just wanted to complain in the comment section, don't mind me.
Edit: I can run whatever I want in my OS, but sometimes it happens that I just don't want to spend a few hours to go full h4xx0r just to make an exe work, I have my pride I don't want to resigned and use windows, because I don't like to be forced to use something I don't want to use.

Used to advocate that gaming on linux was a fine alternative. Tried to do it myself. Got a VAC warning when trying competitive CS and minecraft crashes after a minute or two. Maybe Manjaro XFCE is not the best gaming distro but still
