Life on Europa? | Space Time | PBS Digital Studios

The Hubble Telescope found more evidence of vast plumes of water bursting through the icy surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa. What does this tell us about the potential for life on Europa?

Previous Episode

New findings have increased the likelihood that there is a vast ocean lying under the surface of Europa. Jupiter’s moon is emerging as one of the most likely places in our solar system to find life. Why do we think Europa is such a good bet for extra-terrestrial life? What would might that life look-like? And how soon will we be able to confirm this?

Lets hope that life on Europa is not as dangerous as COVID-19 virus, or we will have to quarantine the entire Jupiter.

This is, in my opinion, the strongest argument against the rare earth hypothesis. In just our own solar system we already have plenty of candidates for places where extraterrestrial abiogenesis could happen.

Forget Mars lets go to Europa instead blasting "The Final Countdown" as we land. Concentrate on "Underwater" type modules instead of dusty cave dwellings and giant seafood recipes instead of plants fertilized by astronaut dried poop.

That last part was the most interesting for me and a question I've been pondering for quite some time "Free Will". Is it an allusion or is it a real thing ? I guesstimated to be 94% an illusion (there seems to be 4%- 6% freedom of choice within certain circumstances) .. it's in slight flux but not by much. It is a mixture of probabilistic outcomes within an incapsulated past ,future and present environment 🤔. It truly only makes sense if a person takes account the holographic nature of the universe we live in.

There is of course not even such a thing as karma much less superdeterminism as in we do not have the ability to choose what we would do in fact it's impossible to predict or it's impossible to how you might say have a system guide what it is that I'm supposed to say or do or think or feel because if that would happen then of course any action wouldn't be our responsibility. The idea that there's some God pulling all the strings all at the same time or that a program was created in order to adequately predict exactly what anyone would ever flag load do. It wouldn't matter if there is such a program capable of making the choice is on an individual level but superdeterminism to say that there is such a thing is ridiculous. Because although the cells of the body have no clue what the body wants to do if it's life it does things but we know that there are choices made by the individuals themselves choices made in biology which has nothing to do with the choices made in ourselves a question would be why is it that I don't know what my left hemisphere is doing if I am the right Hemisphere and they performed the segmentation on me. The Terminus would prove that there should be some reason for the saying to happen based on whatever it is that is actually taking place and so would rape the manifold or. The obvious thing is that people are in control of their own thoughts it isn't just a system trying to generate all the different possibility he's in then learn about those. It's a system that puts things into place and then the subsystems take on a hold all their own. Some people actually I think that quantum entanglement is. If you were to press a button that leads to a series of consecutive events that leads to another press of a button or such. And all goes well. The outcome was predicted when that machine was originally constructed. The person who constructed it is no more cognizant of another person making a similar move in on a completely different time say weeks ago who did not publicize the you know understand that I am totally lost by the fact that anyone even question this. Because if people were able to have a computer system or whatever control what everyone does why am I so much smarter than PBS people sometimes even though they have direct connection to the ones doing the measurements and I am sitting on my couch and they who should be of Greater intelligence still think that there is such a thing as curvature of space-time and I denied completely

Could we change the trajectory of a moon of Jupiter to collide with mars to provide mars with whater, gasses and a long therm hotter climate by party evaporating upon impact and releasing carbon dioxide and other gasses from mars crust – we could get a hotter mars with a useable athmospheric pressure and possibly even liquid whater

please dont blast a giant hole in the ice when we go to look,,use a microscopic cam and treat those moons humanely like a human body going in those an existing opening 1st, before cutting into it.

Based on the Fermi Paradox, it's not a good thing if they do.
Basically, if life is so common that there is more than one world with life on it, surely they would have developed space technology right? But if this is true, I quote Enrico Fermi, "where is everyone?"
It's a bad thing because it means that life is common and that there is a stage ahead of us no life form can get past.
In short, if we find other life, we're doomed to kill ourselves.

we have the technology + the resources! All the space agencies i.e. NASA, ESA, SpaceX, ISA and iSpace should team up and quickly launch several rockets with probes and rovers bound for the jovian moons to uncover their secrets once and for all.. it should have been done 2 decades ago! Humanity needs to stop wasting time and cross the moons off our bucket list already! Planning and planning and planning.. just get it over with guys!

A guess about Europa's ocean… – STERILE. Do I want to see anything else? – of course. But not likely. – We will find 1) – The ocean is much much smaller than we thought… and 2) – nothing is there.

This idea is really is a religion. Its amazing how a lethal environment brings life Not nurtured environment that we have seen in our surrounding in environment in which we live in. Interesting how this evolution religion try's to explain life and it completely backwards on what we know that support life.

might be just every action in the universe is conscious…. but if you're not looking with the right eyes you don't know where the system of that consciousness begins and ends. In other words we're experiencing the universe rather than a free part of it.
